Balsa

Nord Compensati is the sole distributor on the Italian market for the “BALTEK” (now Alcan) Balsa wood. Balsa comes from Ecuador and thanks to the climatic and geophysical characteristics of the lands of growth (a subequatorial belt close to the Andes Cordillera and the Pacific ocean) it is the lightest wood known in the world (average of 160 kg/m³ kiln dried).
Due to this peculiarity it is used and end-grain wood core in those sectors technologically advanced in the composite sandwich panels, such as aerospace, boat building, railroad and PRF industries. It is also used in traditional sectors such as floats for fishing, boats and planes modelling. It is extensively employed for heat, sound and vibration insulations.
This fast growing tree is ready to be harvested in only 5 years and the wood used by Alcan is coming exclusively from their own plantations in order to guarantee the preservation of the forest and, above all, the selection of the species. Properly treated at the origin against wood insects attacks, it is distributed in the form of semi-finished panels, both rigid and flexible (Contourkore), in flitches up to 1,6 mt. long and in ready to be used small boards for the D.I.Y. market.
